- Requires sealing across wide or extreme temperature ranges, especially with continuous high temperatures, thermal cycling, or heat-cleaning regimes.

- Needs high purity, low contamination, low outgassing, or compliance-focused performance for vacuum, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or food-processing applications.
- Needs elastomeric resilience where rigid PTFE is impractical because the seal must tolerate vibration, movement, mechanical stress, or compression-based sealing loads.

Engineering Considerations
Even at the top end of elastomer performance, FFKM still needs proper specification and gland design:
- Chemical compatibility — FFKM withstands degradation by virtually all chemicals, but some fluorinated solvents, fully halogenated freons, and uranium hexafluoride can cause significant swell or attack.
- Alkali metal exposure — FFKM parts should not be exposed to molten or gaseous alkali metals.
- Thermal expansion — Manufacturers commonly state that FFKM has a thermal coefficient of expansion around 50% greater than standard fluoroelastomers, so gland volume may need to be increased for elevated-temperature operation.
- Cost versus benefit — FFKM is comparatively expensive and is usually justified where the improvement in reliability, chemical resistance, or temperature performance outweighs the added cost.
